How to play PokeSpire

You pick a region, pick a starter, then walk a map of wild fights, events, and gyms. One Pokémon is on the field. The team holds three.

What I checked

I read the Kanto map screenshot and the Cyndaquil battle screenshot side by side. The map labels Brock on floor 4, Misty on 8, Lt. Surge on 11, and Erika as the act boss. The battle HUD shows 2/3 energy, Draw 5, and Discard 1.

There is no written tutorial on the itch page. The numbers in the tables are from public build 20070350, checked 2026-10-28. A patch can change them.

A first half hour

This is a reading order, not a required route. The map seed changes every run.

StepWhat I would doWhy
1Start in Kanto with BulbasaurThe developer wrote that Bulbasaur is too easy. Overgrow heals 6 HP each fight (build).
2Take wild nodes earlyThe party cap is 3. A second and third Pokémon come from catches.
3Throw only when the ball button is upA throw costs 1 energy. Sleep and paralysis raise the rate in the build formula.
4Expect a rival on floor 6The rival picks a starter that beats yours. Build-only.
5Watch floors 8–11A roaming legendary can replace a node. It flees after 4 turns. Build-only.

The battle screen

The base turn starts with 3 energy and draws 5 cards; badges and status can modify both. At turn end, non-Retain cards go to the discard pile, while Ethereal cards exhaust. The screenshot’s “Discard 1” is a pile counter, not a rule to keep one card. Block is shared by the whole team and lasts until your next turn starts. Switching the active Pokémon costs 1 energy. The enemy intent is shown before you end the turn.

Same-type attacks are marked STAB and deal ×1.5 in the build. The Squirtle screenshot shows “Water moves are super effective” against Vulpix, plus Torrent’s 3 Block.

Catching

A ball costs 1 energy. The build clamps the chance between 2% and 95%. It multiplies ball rate, remaining HP, body size, a legendary factor, status, and ability. Sleep or paralysis is ×1.5. Poison or burn is ×1.2. The screenshot shows 54% and 42% in two different fights, so the number moves.

Where do I start a run?

On the title screen, choose New run, then a region. Only Kanto is open until you become that region’s champion. See the region guides.
